I’m a Dutch artist who portrays animals as characters: stubborn, funny, sometimes a little cheeky, and always full of personality. Not nature-documentary animals, but figures that look at you as if they know exactly how the world works… or at least pretend they do.
The animals
The animals I create have a world of their own.
They wear sunglasses, hold a glass of whisky, light a cigar, pull strange faces, or look at you with an expression that says: “I know something you don’t.”
They are sometimes tough, sometimes shy, often a mix of both.
Behind the humour there’s always a moment of recognition… that small touch of humanity in an animal that exaggerates just a little, just like we do.
You’re not just bringing an animal into your home, but a character with a story, an attitude, and a subtle wink.
The artist
I love using a quick, confident pen stroke to set an expression. That’s the starting point for a new animal with character. Then colour and form follow, and presto: a new peculiar creature is born.
I live and work in Hellevoetsluis with one husband and three cats.
My animals bring lightness, warmth, and a smile to any space. They are playful, funny, honest, and stubborn. Humour, and to a slightly lesser extent, colour, can be a real lifesaver. That’s what I want to offer: light, humour, and colour in a world that can sometimes feel very dark.
